Manchester United's British-record signing Angel Di Maria will make his first appearance for the club after the winger was picked to start in Saturday's trip to Burnley.

Di Maria joined United from Real Madrid for an initial £59.7 million on Tuesday and Louis van Gaal has deemed his new signing fit to play from the off at Turf Moor.

Chris Smalling is out following United's draw at Sunderland last week, with Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Tyler Blackett making up the back three.

Di Maria makes up United's midfield along with Darren Fletcher, Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia while Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie lead the line.

Midfielders Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa have both been omitted from the squad: Cleverley has been linked with a move to Aston Villa while Kagawa is widely expected to make a return to Borussia Dortmund.

Burnley: Heaton; Trippier, Duff, Shackell (c), Mee; Arfield, Jones, Marney, Taylor; Ings, Jutkiewicz.

Subs: Gilks, Ward, Reid, Long, Wallace, Sordell, Barnes.

Manchester United: De Gea, Jones, Evans, Blackett, Valencia, Young, Fletcher, Di Maria, Mata, Rooney, van Persie.

Subs: Januzaj, Hernandez, Welbeck, James, M. Keane, Anderson, Amos.
