Manchester United have dismissed claims that Radamel Falcao lied about his age when he joined them on loan from Monaco at the end of the transfer window.

Falcao's stated age is 28 but The Sun said it had uncovered documents that showed the Colombia international was born on February 10, 1984, which would make him 30.

The striker, who has moved to United on an initial one-year deal but the club reportedly have an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season, making his age more important.

Falcao dismissed similar claims as "ridiculous" last year and United were satisfied that there was no issue when they assessed his documentation before the transfer was completed.

"We were aware of the rumours but it was never an issue for us," a club spokesman told the Daily Mail.

United's primary concern in completing the deal was ensuring that the player had fully recovered after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in January.

Falcao, who featured for Colombia as a substitute in their 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil on Friday, said afterwards he felt he in "spectacular" condition, adding: "I have been able to play without any kind of trouble whatever."
