Arsenal fear right-back Mathieu Debuchy faces up to three months out after injuring his ankle against Manchester City on Saturday, according to reports.

Debuchy was stretchered off during the 2-2 draw at the Emirates after going down heavily with no other player near him.

The 29-year-old, who moved to the Emirates from Newcastle in a £12 million deal this summer, is set to receive the full results of a scan he underwent on Sunday to determine the extent of his left ankle problem.

Manager Arsene Wenger admitted after the match that the incident "did not look good" and originally feared he could be without the defender for two months. But doctors have now reportedly told him that he can expect Debuchy to take up to 12 weeks to recover from the injury, claim The Sun and Daily Mirror.

That could mean that Debuchy, who has played every game of Arsenal's season so far, could miss up to six Champions League games, with his team-mates preparing to take on Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday in their Group D opener.

The injury will come as yet another blow to Wenger, who is already without key striker Olivier Giroud, sidelined until January with a foot injury.

Calum Chambers is likely to slot in at right-back, but that leaves Arsenal without any recognised cover for centre-back partners Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Wenger sold centre-back Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona this summer for £15m, later admitting the move would leave him short on defensive options.
