Anfield expansion proposal given green light
Liverpool have had their proposal to extend the capacity of Anfield by 8,500 seats recommended for approval by planners.
Elected members of the planning committee will visit the stadium on September 23, before voting on the scheme. If approved, redevelopment will take 20 months to complete and cost around £150 million.
The Reds are hoping to start work on the Main Stand as early as December, with the redevelopment set to take the stadium's capacity up to 54,000.
Liverpool are also hopeful Anfield will eventually hold 58,800 spectators, with the proposal including outline permission recommended for an expanded Anfield Road Stand.
The club's 70-page report - seen by the Liverpool Echo - states the Main Stand will not fully close, but that two large cranes will help lift steel girders into place.
A memorial garden outside the stadium for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster is also part of the design.
