Title in the balance for City?

Jose Mourinho wants UEFA to punish teams like Manchester City who breach Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations by deducting points and titles.

City were fined £50 million by UEFA earlier this year, although that figure may be reduced to £20m, while they also saw their Champions League squad reduced from 25 players to 21 as well as being hit with a ban on increasing their wage bill.

However, Mourinho says these sanctions are have little effect on such clubs, given they are being punished for excessive spending in the first place.

"Everybody knows there are fines and, if these fines exist, control exists," Mourinho told Portuguese website Maisfutebol.

"But, anyway, are the fines fair? I don't think so. In my opinion the first thing to do would be to remove points and remove titles. If you have important capital which allows you to overcome financial fair play, if you win titles and then you are fined economically, you keep doing the same thing.

"They will take from you one or two players from the Champions League list [shrugs]. Then, instead of 24, you go with 22. But if you're stating that you'll start the next Champions League with six points fewer, or you won't play in the next edition of the Champions League and will go into the Europa League instead, it is more serious."

After years of huge losses due to owner Roman Abramovich's lavish spending, Mourinho said earlier this month that FFP regulations have turned Chelsea into a selling club, with the likes of Juan Mata, David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku departing Stamford Bridge for big money in the last year.

Mourinho's Chelsea travel to City on Sunday looking to maintain their 100% record with a fifth consecutive win after a flying start to their Premier League campaign.
