Giroud's new two-year deal is done, says Wenger
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that striker Olivier Giroud has agreed a two-year extension to his current contract.
Giroud, 28 on Tuesday, is currently recovering from surgery on a broken left tibia and will be out of action until the end of the year. However, he has been rewarded for some fine form over the past few seasons and will continue to play for the north London club until 2018.
When asked about the situation with Giroud, Wenger said: "It is done. We want stability and to keep the core of our team together. Giroud is an important player here. It is agreed. When it is completely done, we will announce it.''
Wenger, speaking ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray, said Jack Wilshere is fit after fears were raised about his ankle at the weekend. The midfielder trained on Tuesday and is in the Arsenal squad to face Galatasaray
The manager also had fitness updates on Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey. The former has a calf problem and the latter a hamstring strain, and they are expected to miss four weeks each.
Wenger said: "To be generous with time, four weeks. If all goes well, three. Arteta is the same, maybe a bit quicker. It will be after the international break,'' he said.
