Terry 'very proud' to reach 100 Champions League appearances

John Terry says he is "very proud" to reach 100 Champions League appearances as Chelsea edged past Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.
Terry became the just the 28th player in the competitions history to reach a century in the 1-0 win at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Speaking to Sky Sports immediately after the game, Terry said: "There are not many players to achieve that so I'm very proud.
"I've had a great and successful career so far and for me, long may it continue. I'm feeling great at the moment and really honoured to get so far with Chelsea over the years but also for myself to maintain my performances and stay in the side - we've got a very good side."
Chelsea dominated the game from the off and will be disappointed not to have added to the only goal of the game from Nemanja Matic, but Terry described it as "one of those nights".
He added: "They're a good side - it's been almost 10 years since they've been in the Champions League so it's a big night for them.
"We had so many chances to kill it off but it was one of those nights where it just didn't go. Thankfully, Mati got a great header in.
"Regardless of the other result we needed a win and we got it, so we're top of the group and in control again."
Match-winner Matic added: "I think the first half we played very well, we controlled all 45 minutes but in the second half we had a lot of difficulty to play our game, they pressed us a lot. The most important thing is that we take three very important points.
"It's not important who scores the goal. It is more important to win but I feel very, very good because I scored. Sporting is a big rival of Benfica."
