Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski says he is considering leaving the club in January because of a lack of playing time.

Podolski, 29, was restricted to a watching role on the substitutes' bench as Arsene Wenger's team saw off Galatasarary 4-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Germany international, who also found himself on the bench for much of his nation's World Cup-winning campaign, has only made two brief appearances in the Premier League and one in Europe this season. His only start came in the 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the League Cup.

Podolski looked at one point to be on his way out of the club in the summer, when Alexis Sanchez and then Danny Welbeck were signed, only for Arsene Wenger to opt to keep him. However, he could find himself heading for a new challenge during the January transfer window.

"I am a footballer through and through, I am a street footballer and I love competition. And when I don't have that competition every weekend, there has to be a change," Podolski, under contract at Arsenal until 2016, told RTL in quotes reported by Spiegel.

"We'll see about [a possible transfer in January]. But I have to at least give it a thought."
