De Gea: I can handle the critics

Manchester United have again been warned that Roma have no interest in selling Kevin Strootman.

United are reportedly set to move for Strootman in January, with the Dutchman having sacked his agent last month and teamed up with Kees Vos - the man who represents both United striker Robin van Persie and Louis van Gaal.

The United manager himself also confirmed in pre-season he would monitor Strootman's recovery from a cruciate ligament injury, but Roma owner James Pallotta says a transfer is "just not happening".

"I have told the papers that they should stop wasting paper," Pallotta told BBC Sport. "We don't have any interest in selling Kevin."

Pallotta also played down suggestions Roma would be willing to cash in if they received an offer of £75 million.

"Obviously as business people when people call us and say, 'We want your player,' you are going to listen to them," he said. "You have to do that - that is the business side.

"That doesn't mean you are going to make a decision that [an offer of] £75m - bang, you hit the bid. That is not the way it is going to work, it is not the way it does work with us."

Asked if money would talk eventually, he replied: "For others, maybe. Our view is that we want to put a great team out there, but we are not saying, 'We have to make a ton of money.'

"Our goal across the board is stability."

Several figures at Roma - including coach Rudi Garcia and sporting director Walter Sabatini - have already underlined the club's intention to keep hold of Strootman.
