Don't compare me to United legend Keane, says Blind

Daley Blind has shrugged off comparisons with Roy Keane and said it is premature to mention him in the same breath as one of Manchester United's great captains.

The Dutchman has made four appearances in the United midfield since completing his £14 million move from Ajax on the final day of the transfer window. United have long been deemed to lack a leader in the midfield in the time since Keane's 12-year Old Trafford career ended in 2005.

But Blind argues he should not be burdened with the expectation of being the new Keane, saying: "Let's not go overboard. It's going quite well, but we've only just started."

The 24-year-old has been praised for his passing during his brief United career and he believes his new club share a similar style of play to his former employers.

He added: "I can say I have settled in quite well. In England it is not very usual to start the build-up from behind. United do. This is where my Ajax background becomes useful. Starting the build-up there is our second nature."

Blind helped Holland finish third in the World Cup this summer but said he suddenly gained in popularity on social media sites when he joined United.

"I had only just signed for Manchester United when my Twitter account exploded," he explained. "This club is so huge."

And Blind said he has found United's past greats and current big names all helpful as he gets used to life in new surroundings.

He said: "Sir Bobby Charlton comes into the dressing after every match. [That is] nice to see. He doesn't say much. He is just there, being that iconic figure of the club.

"Robin van Persie helped me out a lot in the early stages. Now I hang out with the other players too. We've got a nice group of players with the likes of [Angel] Di Maria and [Radamel] Falcao.

"[They are] world-class players but very down-to-earth. Falcao even seems shy when you meet him for the first time. It's up to me to reach their level. My Ajax background comes in handy there too."
