FA charges Warnock for referee criticism

Warnock: This season is wide open

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has been charged with misconduct by the FA for his comments following the 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Warnock appeared to imply that referee Craig Pawson was guilty of double standards for not booking John Terry but cautioning Palace's Damien Delaney for a similar offence.

"John Terry doesn't get booked and he books Damien Delaney and I think it's ridiculous. I thought he was influenced today," Warnock said after the game.

"I don't think the referee has a defence today. I don't really want to talk about him. All things being even, I thought we would have got a result."

The FA said in an official statement: "It is alleged that Warnock's postmatch comments constituted improper conduct in that they implied the match referee was motivated by bias; and/or brought the game into disrepute, in contravention of FA Rule E3[1].''

Warnock, who is no stranger to FA charges for his criticism of referees, has until 6pm on Monday to respond.

Meanwhile, the FA has contacted Swansea manager Garry Monk about his comments following the 2-1 defeat at Stoke.

Monk blasted match official Michael Oliver for a "disgusting" decision to award a penalty for a foul on Stoke's Victor Moses, and criticised the player for what he claimed was a blatant dive.
