According to the Press Association, a resident in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester called police after Balotelli allegedly moved towards her daughter as she was taking pictures of his red Ferrari F12 Berlinetta at around 3pm on Thursday.

Balotelli was said to have been visiting his mother's home in Manchester when the alleged incident took place.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: ''We are investigating a report of threatening behaviour following an incident in Pewsey Road, Wythenshawe.

''Officers will be speaking to all concerned in due course.''

Police sources said it was unlikely either party would be spoken to until Friday at the earliest.

Balotelli came under fire on Thursday and was criticised publicly by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for swapping shirts with Real Madrid defender Pepe as the players walked off at the interval during Wednesday's 3-0 Champions League home loss.
