David Beckham is considering the possibility of making a shock return to English football with West Ham United, according to Hammers' chairman David Gold.

The 35-year-old has been plying his trade in America with Los Angeles Galaxy since 2007, but reports suggest that he could be tempted by a Premier League comeback.

West Ham have made no secret of their desire to bring a "marquee" signing to the club this summer, and Beckham would appear to fit that bill perfectly.

Despite missing out on the signing of former Arsenal star Thierry Henry, who moved to New York Red Bulls, the Hammers remain hopeful of success due to the positive noises emanating from the Beckham camp.

"We had some discussions with David's agents a few months ago and it was a possibility," Gold told The Sun. "He's preoccupied with a few projects but he's promised he will give every consideration to the possibility of joining us."

The Hammers revealed yesterday that they turned down a bid from Tottenham Hotspur for another England midfielder, Scott Parker.
