Al Fayed claims Hodgson 'took advantage' of Fulham

Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed believes Roy Hodgson "took advantage" of the club after he left for Liverpool.

Hodgson took over at Craven Cottage at the end of 2007 after a stint in charge of the Finland national team and steered the team clear of relegation. In the 2008-09 season, he took Fulham to the highest finish in their history - seventh - before reaching the Europa League final last season, where they were beaten 2-1 by Atletico Madrid.

Hodgson - who had previously managed sides including Switzerland, Blackburn and Inter - joined Liverpool this summer having enhanced his reputation at Fulham, and Al Fayed feels he might have shown more loyalty.

"[Mark Hughes] inherited a great team which had fantastic results but unfortunately this guy, after we put him where he is now, he took advantage and left us," he said, "but good luck to him, good luck to Liverpool."

Al Fayed is confident Mark Hughes will prove successful as Hodgson's replacement.

"He is a nice guy. He is much better looking and I am sure that he will do a great job. I am sure that there will be no complications. We have a great managing director and chief executive and we're happy to have someone like Mark in place."
