Jose Mourinho says Chelsea are in the midst of a "perfect season" and they should not be worried after drawing a blank for this first time this campaign in the goalless draw at Sunderland.

Manchester City closed to within six points of Premier League leaders Chelsea after Mourinho's side were held at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

However, Mourinho was piqued by suggestions he would be looking for a reaction to the draw when Tottenham head to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

"What do you want the team to do or feel when the team is doing a perfect season?" said Mourinho.

"Top of the league in the Premier League, top of the group in the Champions League, quarter-finals in the Capital One Cup, not losing a match in four months. The team has to feel very, very well.

"When the defeat arrives, we have to feel the same way. We are doing things very, very well and it's not a bad result, when a bad result arrives, that is going to change our self-belief and self-esteem."

Diego Costa will be absent against Spurs after picking up his fifth booking of the season to earn a one-match suspension, but Mourinho is not concerned.

"We don't speak about Diego," he said. "We trust [Loic] Remy and [Didier] Drogba the same way we trust Diego. This is not our way of working. So forget Diego. We trust the other two and we go with the other two."

Mourinho also remained tight-lipped about John Terry's future at the club. Asked whether his captain was doing enough to earn a new deal, Mourinho said: "In this moment, you start the speculation, nobody else.

"It's not time to speak about it, but he knows what I think and what I feel. I don't need to talk about it with you."
