Van Gaal complains about Christmas schedule

Manchester United's spending spree looks set to continue this summer with Louis van Gaal being handed another war chest in excess of £150 million to further improve his squad.

Van Gaal spent over £150m during last summer's transfer window to bring in seven new players, including a British transfer record £59.7m fee for Angel Di Maria, but that figure is expected to rise significantly in order for the Dutchman to build a squad capable of competing with Europe's elite.

Several reports suggest United are encouraged by the progress Van Gaal has already made at Old Trafford. Given the funds available, the coach will look to mimic Real Madrid's Galactico policy - already being referred to as the "Van Gaalacticos" - and aim to secure a world-class player in every position, a desire reportedly shared by United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Van Gaal will hand Woodward a wish list of targets that is thought to include Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels, Roma's Kevin Strootman and Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin in order to build a world-class defence and bolster his midfield options further.

Marco Reus is on the radar according to the Daily Mirror, although Bayern Munich also hold interest. United will also have to make a decision on Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, currently on loan at Old Trafford, who will cost around £46m should the move be made permanent. Falcao's loan deal has so far cost United in excess of £6m.

The club make a huge amount from their improved commercial division, though another substantial summer outlay will reportedly be tempered by as many as 10 more players leaving the club.

The Guardian and Daily Mail report the likes of Anders Lindegaard, Anderson, Nani, Javier Hernandez, Tom Cleverly, Nick Powell, Wilfried Zaha, Reece James and Michael Keane are all likely to leave.

With Robin van Persie, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Rafael all with just a year left on their contracts next summer as well, Woodward could well be on for an even busier summer than the previous one.
