We need wins - not a change of manager, says Giroud

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has criticised a "minority" of the club's supporters for recently unfurling a banner which called for Arsene Wenger to step down as manager.

Fans displayed the message, which stated it was time for Wenger "to say goodbye", during Arsenal's 1-0 victory against West Brom, although it provoked a defiant reaction from the Frenchman.

Despite enduring a record-worst start to a Premier League season after 11 matches, Arsenal's fortunes have swiftly turned around following a three-match winning streak.

And Giroud was quick to leap to the defence of his manager, telling L'Equipe: "I don't even understand how that minority of fans was able to put up such a banner at a time when we were winning.

"There's no debate. We need to string wins together to make up our deficit. That's the only way we'll get into the top four."

Giroud has made a strong impact following his recent return from injury and is confident of regaining a starting place despite the club's decision to spend nearly £50 million on Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez.
