Capello takes positives from World Cup
Fabio Capello feels he emerged from the World Cup as a better manager and is ready to guide England back up the world football ladder.
England had a torrid time at the World Cup and bowed out at the second round stage, losing 4-1 to Germany.
Capello has apologised to the England fans for the sorry efforts in South Africa, but is convinced he has something to offer the national side.
"First of all, I want to say sorry to the fans as our performance was not good," Capello said at a press conference on Monday. "South Africa was not good for us. We did not play at the same level as qualification for the World Cup. When you play in the World Cup, you have to arrive in good shape. We did not arrive in the best shape.
"The level of the team was not high and we tried to change things but it was not enough to make the difference.
"I think the experience is important for me. I learned a lot. When you lose, that experience is important. You have to understand what happened, what mistakes were made and from these you improve. Everybody makes mistakes in life.
"I will try to do something better for the Euros."
Only 16 of Capello's new-look England squad trained on Monday morning. The squad was reduced by two when Paul Robinson retired on Sunday morning and Wes Brown followed suit later in the day.
In addition to the permanent absentees, five more players were unable to play a full part in training on Monday morning.
Chelsea duo John Terry and Ashley Cole both went for warm-down sessions after forming part of the initial group meeting.Glen Johnson and Gareth Barry (both ankle) also went for treatment on what have been classed as 'minor' injuries, but a back injury has ruled Darren Bent out of Wednesday's friendly.
