Pochettino: Kane can still improve

David Beckham has urged England manager Roy Hodgson to hand Tottenham's Harry Kane his England debut, after insisting age should be no barrier to the in-form striker's progression to the senior international team.

Kane was linked with the Republic of Ireland last year as he qualifies to play through his Irish father, but he now looks certain to become a key member of Hodgson's England squad in the remaining Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Now Kane has been given a glowing endorsement by former England captain Beckham, who has been hugely impressed with the 21-year-old's performances, with 22 goals in all competitions for Tottenham this season.

"I think everyone is singing his praises, and rightly so," said Beckham. "He's 21 years old, he's working hard and has got a good head on his shoulders. It doesn't matter what age you are because if you're good enough then you should play for England.

"When someone's performing like he's been performing, then he's always going to get noticed by an England manager and pundits. Being English and seeing someone like Harry and the way he's playing and the way he's played this season, he's having a stunning year."

Beckham was aged 21 when he made his England debut against Moldova in 1996, with Kane widely expected to be given his first call-up to Hodgson's squad that will be named for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley on March 27th.
