Philippe Coutinho scores stunner as Liverpool beat Southampton
Philippe Coutinho scored a stunning goal as Liverpool beat Southampton 2-0 to move to within two points of the Premier League's top four.
Coutinho opened the scoring in the first half at St Mary's as he took aim from distance to find the top corner with an effort that left Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster with no chance.
In a second half lacking clear-cut chances, Raheem Sterling made sure of the result for the visitors as he side-footed home after combining with Alberto Moreno.
The clash could have perhaps seen more goals, with both teams appealing for penalties in the first half, but referee Kevin Friend waved away their protests.
