Arsenal's Champions League hopes in tatters after Monaco defeat

Arsenal shot themselves in the foot just when they looked to have grabbed a Champions League lifeline, losing 3-1 at home to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

The Gunners were well below their best and Monaco raced into a two-goal lead shortly after half-time through Geoffrey Kondogbia and Dimitar Berbatov.

Olivier Giroud missed some gilt-edged chances to bring his side back into it before he was substituted.

And Arsenal's hopes seemed to have been given a late boost by a 91st-minute goal from sub Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But in the 94th minute Oxlade-Chamberlain tripped over the ball, Monaco broke quickly and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco made no mistake for what could be a decisive third.
