'Arsenal to win title? Stranger things have happened'

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has hinted that his side could be edging back into the Premier League title race after they recorded their sixth straight win in the competition at Newcastle on Saturday.

Arsenal are seven points behind leaders Chelsea - who also have a game in hand - but confidence is flowing for Ramsey and his team-mates after their battling 2-1 win against Newcastle on Saturday.

"Stranger things have happened," Ramsey replied when asked if Arsenal were still in the hunt. "We need to win every game, and hope Chelsea and Man City do not take every step.

"We just have to focus on ourselves and believe other teams around us will be on the end of upsets. We just have to try and win every game until the end of the season.

"In this division teams can lose against anyone. We have just got to be switched on and make sure it doesn't happen to us and maintain this run."

Arsenal needed to display their battling qualities to come through with a win against a Newcastle side that threw everything at them in the second half at St. James' Park, with the visitors banishing the disappointment of their Champions League exit to secure a valuable win.

"It became very difficult, we were under the cosh," Ramsey added. "It was nervy. We couldn't quite get the ball down. Their fans started getting behind them and you could feel the tension building within us. We did well to keep them out."

While a title push remains unlikely, Arsenal can go a long way to cementing their position in the top four of the Premier League in their next fixture against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in two weeks time, with a victory for Arsene Wenger's side allowing them to open up a nine-point advantage over their Merseyside rivals.
