Grant set to remain at Portsmouth for Sunday's game

A close associate of Avram Grant has told Soccernet that the Portsmouth manager will be in the dugout at Manchester City on Sunday despite having "had enough" of the situation at Fratton Park.

The source revealed that Grant is due to cancel Friday's press conference as he believes answering questions would further damage his slim chances of keeping the club alive in the Premier League.

With Younes Kaboul, Asmir Begovic, Aruna Didane and Mike Williamson already on their way out of Fratton Park, Grant is understood to be deeply concerned as he thought that the club would do everything in their power to keep their best players.

Chief executive Peter Storrie told Soccernet on Thursday night that he and Grant could be set to walk out on the club after the pair were sidelined in negotiations over the sales, but a Pompey insider believes Grant will remain at the club until at least the end of the month.

He told Soccernet on Friday morning: "Avram is not a quitter, but he has had enough. The club have moved the goalposts. He always had a struggle for survival, but the chances are slipping away with the sale of some of the best players.

"Dindane is back from the African nations today having played for Ivory Coast, but Lens own him and Birmingham have made a bid. The potential sale of Begovic to Spurs has stunned everyone.

"It's hardly a surprise they are selling Kaboul, but with £1.7m owed to Spurs from buying him for £6 million and a 20% sell on due back to Spurs, there is only around £6 million coming in from Spurs. At least that will pay the wages this month. The wages are due today but it depends how quickly the Kaboul money comes, so the wages might be late again.

"It is likely Avram will call off his press conference. He did last week because he didn't want to talk about the behind-the-scenes stuff, but it's far worse now, so how can he talk freely about it without undermining his own team?"

Storrie has told Soccernet that he will make up his mind whether to resign at the weekend, but with new investors primed to move in, he may remain for a few more days. Storrie feels that if he goes then Grant may follow suit, but the club are now expected to work hard to persuade both of them to stay.
