Spurs rocked by Defoe absence

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has been ruled out for three months after ankle surgery.
Defoe was stretchered off of England's 3-1 victory over Switzerland, and had initially hoped that he would be fit to play in Spurs' clash against West Brom this weekend, but the injury was worse than initially feared and the striker admitted he needed surgery.
The initial assessment was that Defoe would be out of action for six weeks, but after undergoing surgery on Thursday night, a statement on Spurs' official website revealed that he would be sidelined for three months.
"Following a review by an ankle specialist, Jermain Defoe underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right ankle yesterday evening (Thursday)," read the statement.
"The striker was forced off with the injury during England's European Championship qualifier in Switzerland on Tuesday and has been ruled out of action for around three months."
