Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has joined Sunderland on loan.
The Scotland international right-back arrived at Sunderland's training ground on Monday morning to complete his switch to Wearside and joins until the end of the season.
Hutton, 25, is Steve Bruce's second defensive recruit after the arrival of Sheffield United's Matt Kilgallon. He began his career at Rangers and made over 100 appearances before joining Spurs for £9 million in January 2008. However, Hutton has made just one Premier League appearance this season.
Manager Steve Bruce told the club's official website: "We have been particularly short of defensive options of late so Alan will come in at a very opportune time and will provide us with vital reinforcements.
"We have tracked him for some time so we're delighted to have brought him here until the end of the season. I'm sure he will have a big part to play between now and May."
Hutton said: "Everyone wants to play football and I'm no different, he said. "But I know that, like anyone else, I'll have to give 110% to show the manager I'm worthy of a starting place. I already know how big Sunderland is as a club. They have great fans and I'm really looking forward to playing in front of them. When I was at Rangers the fans were superb and I'm sure Sunderland's will be much the same.
"I'm over the moon to be here and now I want to crack on and do my best for Sunderland," he added. "The place is amazing. These are great facilities - everything needed for a massive club like this. I know a few of the lads already. Obviously I know Darren Bent and I had a wee chat with Craig Gordon earlier today.
"Knowing people should help me to settle in quicker. It's helpful having people you know around and it makes things a lot easier. Sunderland started brilliantly with some massive results but we've fallen away a bit recently. Hopefully I can come in and help turn that around."
Meanwhile, Sunderland's Daryl Murphy has sealed a deadline-day loan move to rejoin former Black Cats manager Roy Keane at Ipswich. The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international has signed for the Tractor Boys on loan until the end of the season.
Murphy is followed through the exit door by Nyron Nosworthy who joins Sheffield United in a loan arrangement.
