Manchester United claim there have been "no developments" on Wayne Rooney's uncertain future at the club despite a day of talks at Old Trafford.

Rooney has made it clear that he will not sign a new contract when his current deal expires in August 2012 and wants to leave United. In a statement on Wednesday, the 24-year-old claimed the club could not give him assurances he wanted and had serious concerns about their ability to match his ambition.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, chief executive David Gill and representatives of Rooney met on Thursday to discuss the situation and released the following statement:

"We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report today.

"I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future. In the meantime, fans are asked to be patient."
