Newcastle quash Hughton exit rumours
Newcastle United have responded to speculation regarding the future of manager Chris Hughton by insisting they will seek to extend his contract in the coming months.
Prior to Wednesday night's 4-0 Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal, Hughton's future was under scrutiny after one bookmaker suspended the market on the next Premier League manager to be sacked following a flurry of bets on Hughton.
Despite leading Newcastle to promotion last season, and occupying ninth spot in the Premier League at present, rumour and intrigue surrounded his position but Newcastle have clarified his future.
Following the defeat to Arsenal at St James' Park, Newcastle released a statement that will quash debate about Hughton's future at the club.
"Chris is our manager and will remain our manager," read the statement. "It's our intention to renegotiate his contract at the end of the year."
