Terry and Cole ruled out of France clash

John Terry will miss England's friendly with France on Wednesday through injury, while Ashley Cole and Gabriel Agbonlahor have also withdrawn from the squad.

Cole and Agbonlahor both picked up knocks on club duty over the weekend and the FA has confirmed that Bolton's Gary Cahill and Aston Villa full-back Stephen Warnock have been called in as replacements. Andy Carroll will be assessed by England's medical team with Carlton Cole of West Ham already selected as cover.

Terry missed the stunning 3-0 home defeat to Sunderland after suffering a nerve problem in training that is leading to pain in a gluteal muscle and hamstring.

And after the game Ancelotti said the defender would not be fit to play at Wembley, although he hopes to have him back for next Saturday's trip to Birmingham.

"Terry trained yesterday but, at the end of the training session, he had pain on his nerve in his hamstring and we had the test this morning,'' Ancelotti said. "He was not able to play today. I don't think he will be able to play for the national team. He is out of the squad.

"I don't know if he has to report, we will wait to hear from them. He has had control of this problem. He never missed a training session but yesterday the pain was more, so he was not able to play. But I think he can play the next game. It is an injury, but he can control it. He has controlled it for 12 games.

"He's doing good prevention, good treatment. Everything will be okay for him.''

England boss Fabio Capello has plenty of cover in central defence with Everton's Phil Jagielka having impressed in his recent international outings.

The loss of Cole - one of England's few plus points at the World Cup finals - with an unspecified problem could mean Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs is handed his first senior start.
