We fear no-one - Beckham

David Beckham insists England are not afraid of their rivals in the bid for the 2018 World Cup.

Beckham has flown to Zurich ahead of Thursday's vote, along with Prince William and Prime Minister David Cameron in a bid to rally support for the bid. Spain's joint bid with Portugal, along with Russia's are considered to be the favourites, but Beckham insists they are not concerned by the competition.

"There's not one particular country we are worried about," Beckham said. "We are not worried. I don't think we can afford to be worried about any other bid out there. We know that we have got a great bid; we know we are happy enough with what we have done with our bid so far. No we are not worried about anyone else and we are confident what we have done.

"We are confident because we feel we have got a great argument, a great bid. Doing the presentation for the first time yesterday I realised how strong actually really is."

England's bid has been hit by a spate of negative publicity in recent days, but Beckham says there is still everything to fight for, and the former England captain backed the country's media to support a World Cup in England.

"I think the momentum is out there now," he said. "What people have focused on in the last few days is the negative side of what has been going on whereas we now focused on the positive side. We are making people aware that if and when we do get the World Cup in our country, there is no-one better to get behind a big sporting event like our media does."
