Chimbonda told he can leave Rovers in January

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has hinted at imminent transfer arrivals by allowing Pascal Chimbonda to leave in January - but there has been no progress over a potential move for Roque Santa Cruz.
After being taken over by Indian firm Venky's earlier this month, Blackburn are expected to be one of the most significant movers in the January transfer window. The decision to let Chimbonda go before the end of his contract - which was set to expire next summer - suggests that they are making room in the squad for new recruits.
"We are not going to renew his contract," Allardyce said. "His determination is to find a new contract and we feel for both concerned it is better to let him see what he can get in January."
The Rovers manager moved to cool speculation that the wheels were in motion for Santa Cruz to make a return to Ewood Park. The Paraguayan striker has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Eastlands, and has made just one appearance in the Premier League this season.
"All I said was if Roque was available we would be interested," said Allardyce. "There has been no progress on it. In the next seven to 10 days I will speak to the chairman about the way we go forward in January."
