Redknapp refuses to rule himself out of England running
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has not ruled out becoming the next England manager but insists that the job is a "long way off" and he admits he is wary of falling from grace in a "precarious occupation".
As Spurs prepare for their Champions League clash with FC Twente on Tuesday night - where a win would guarantee them top spot in Group A - Redknapp was forced to answer questions regarding the possibility of taking the England reins from Fabio Capello after striker Peter Crouch said it was "inevitable" the FA would come knocking for the 63-year-old.
However, Redknapp, who has led Spurs to their current position of fifth in the Premier League, is refusing to look too far into the future.
"One minute your flavour of the month and the next minute your history, it's a precarious occupation we're in," he said. "Okay things are going okay at the moment but I've been in the game long enough to know it can turn as quick as it can go good.
"A couple of bad results and it can all change. People's perception of you changes. One week you're a genius, winning games and are a fantastic manager, the next week you lose a few games and you don't know what you're doing.
"And that's way off [the England role], that job is 18 months down the line. Whoever gets the job it's a long way off and who knows where any of us will be in 18 months?"
