Liverpool midfielder Lucas has urged his international team-mate Ronaldinho, currently with AC Milan, to make the switch to Anfield.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the 30-year-old Brazilian could be set to make his bow in the Premier League in 2011, nearly a decade after he was first linked with Manchester United.

Ronaldinho has found it hard to force his way into the AC Milan first-team this season - starting just seven games for the table-topping side - and it looks unlikely that his contract, which runs out next summer, will be renewed.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson, whose side are high on endeavour but light on creativity, could be set to pounce in the January window if Milan take advantage of their last chance to cash in on the former World Player of the Year.

Lucas has sought to force his manager's hand by hailing Ronaldinho's pedigree. "I am not aware of anything in terms of Ronaldinho signing but I would be very happy if this was to happen," Lucas told Globoesporte.

"We started a friendship when we played in the Olympics and for Brazil. It would be nice to play with him at Liverpool. Everyone knows Ronaldinho and they know what he can do."
