Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed his interest in Robbie Keane, but is far from certain of being able to persuade the Tottenham striker to head to Molineux.

Wolves are mired in a relegation fight and McCarthy is determined to add some quality to his ranks. Keane, who has found his opportunities limited at Spurs this term, is likely to be one of the most high-profile players on the market in the January transfer window.

The likes of West Ham, Birmingham and Newcastle have been linked with Keane and McCarthy is aware he will have to work hard to broker a deal.

"He is a fabulous player," McCarthy said. "But would he want to come to us? Can we afford the deal? Is it attractive?

"Robbie has been a top player and whether a relegation scrap at Wolves is something he would fancy, I don't know.

"There are a lot of factors that need to be looked at. It is not just a question of whether I just want someone. We will keep looking at players and the ones that we can get, if they are available, we will do it."
