FA denies Beckham and Redknapp England link-up
January 6, 2011
The Football Association insists it has not even given consideration to Fabio Capello's eventual successor as England manager, after rumours emerged that David Beckham was being lined up for a management role alongside Harry Redknapp.
A report emerged on Wednesday suggesting the FA had moved to team up Tottenham manager Redknapp with former England captain Beckham to lead the national side when Fabio Capello steps down after Euro 2012.
But an FA spokesman said: "There are no such talks and we have not discussed any potential succession plan with anyone at this point.''
The report indicated FA chiefs had held "informal discussions'' with 63-year-old Redknapp over becoming England boss, with 35-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham his assistant, with the long-term plan for the former Manchester United star to take on the top job.
Ironically, Beckham could be managed by Redknapp in the short term if Tottenham secure his services on loan from Los Angeles. The Major League Soccer club has given Beckham permission to make a temporary switch to Europe and Tottenham are one of the frontrunners to sign him.
