Salgado hoping for Rovers stay

Blackburn defender Michel Salgado is hoping to extend his stay at the club, as he believes Rovers could be on the verge of success under new owners Venky's.

Salgado, a Spanish international who spent the majority of his illustrious career with Real Madrid, admitted that the sacking of former manager Sam Allardyce was a disappointment, but feels he is happy and settled in English football and, with the club's Indian owners promising significant investment, hopes to be a part of the adventure at Ewood Park for at least another year.

"I have to thank Sam. He was one of the main reasons I came to England and signed here," Salgado told the Daily Star. "I am enjoying the Premier League and enjoying Blackburn. It's about a new manager, new owners and the fans. But if it's about the lifestyle, enjoying the Premier League and enjoying Blackburn, then I am really happy here."

Salgado moved from the Santiago Bernabeu to Blackburn in 2009, eager to test himself in the Premier League. The 35-year-old acknowledged the challenge of a new country and a new style of football has been everything he expected it to be, but believes he is coping well and still has a lot to offer.

With his current contract due to expire in May, Salgado hopes to secure an extension, as he believes the club could be about to enter a successful period.

"In the Premier League it's very physical. I am feeling fit and I can recover and still enjoy it," Salgado said. "One of the main reasons I'd like to stay and have one more year is because we have a little more chance to do something big."
