Magpies fail in Tiote appeal

Newcastle United have failed in their appeal against a red card shown to midfielder Cheik Tiote in Saturday's shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of Stevenage.
Tiote was dismissed for a two-footed challenge on Stevenage's John Ashton as the Magpies were defeated 3-1 by the League Two side.
Newcastle protested against the punishment, and while that has failed, they have escaped a further one-game ban for making a frivolous appeal.
"At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote was rejected," read an FA statement. "As a result, Tiote's three-match suspension will remain in place."
The midfielder, who has impressed since joining the club from FC Twente in the summer, will now miss the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland and Premier League games against Tottenham and Fulham.
"For my red card, I didn't think I touched the player, only the ball," Tiote said following his dismissal. "Maybe the referee made a mistake, because I didn't touch the player.
"I took the ball - I didn't touch the player - and I don't know why he gave me a red card, but this is football."
In other news, Newcastle have sent teenage defender Tamas Kadar on loan to Huddersfield for the next month.
