Spurs agree Pienaar fee with Everton

Tottenham Hotspur have moved into pole position in the race to sign Steven Pienaar after the club agreed a fee with Everton for the South Africa midfielder.
The 28-year-old's contract is winding down, prompting Everton to entertain offers for Pienaar, and they agreed a fee with Chelsea last week. Talks broke down between the player and Chelsea, reportedly over wages, and this allowed Tottenham to step in with an improved offer.
Spurs will have the chance to talk terms with the former Ajax man after Everton accepted an offer from Harry Redknapp's side.
Everton defender Sylvain Distin is resigned to seeing his team-mate head through the exit door in January and he admits it is a blow.
"It's disappointing to lose Steven," Distin said. "You don't want to lose one of your best players but that's football. Everywhere I've been it's been the same, there's not much we can do - just stay focused and carry on doing what we're doing. I don't think it's a done deal yet but it's disappointing."
