Liverpool have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich captain Mark van Bommel, according to the player's agent.

Van Bommel, 33, is out of contract at the end of the season and it appears increasingly likely he could move on with Wolfsburg, AC Milan and Tottenham all linked with a move. Netherlands team-mate Rafael van der Vaart is a big fan of his international colleague, and he has already called for his own club Spurs to secure Van Bommel's signature.

Agent Mino Raiola told Bild: "I cannot guarantee 100% that he will be staying. It is not essential I act quickly - it is important that I do my job well. I have to find the perfect club for Mark, but we don't have all that much time.

"I know of Liverpool's interest, but there are other interesting offers at the moment."

Van Bommel has refused to give any guarantees to Bayern and said he will leave it to his representatives to decide his future.

"I am still proud to be captain of this club, but you never know what the future holds," Van Bommel said. "I am concentrating fully on Bayern - everything else is up to my advisors."
