Blackburn Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen has committed himself to the club for another two years.

The 32-year-old has been a rock for Rovers in defence this season and his inspired performances at the back have helped Rovers climb to a current position of 11th in the Premier League.

The deal, which could realistically keep Nelsen at the club for the remainder of his career, comes a day after Blackburn boss Steve Kean was awarded a contract extension, keeping him at Ewood Park until June 2013.

Despite his shock at former manager Sam Allardyce's departure, Nelsen has been impressed by Kean and was delighted to see him pen a new deal.

"It is absolutely fantastic news. It gives the team some stability and it is going to be a really exciting time," he told Sky Sports.

"It was a big surprise [Allardyce leaving], but since then the owners have outlined their vision for the club and Steve has stood up and taken a fantastic grip. It is a real positive that we are heading in the right direction."
