Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is hopeful an "outstanding" William Gallas will agree a new contract to stay at White Hart Lane next season.

Gallas, 33, moved to Spurs in August after negotiations over a contract extension at arch rivals Arsenal broke down. Since his arrival, the central defender has made 21 appearances in all competitions and Redknapp is desperate to keep the Frenchman at the club.

"I think it probably will get done," said Redknapp. "William wants to stay and he has been outstanding."

Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Chelsea and, although Redknapp admits they will not be able to catch Manchester United, he is confident his team can finish in the top three.

He said: "We won't finish above Man United. If I had to pick one team who might have a chance of catching them I would go with Chelsea.

"We have a chance to finish above the others. It's quite open. City are a good side, but it's not impossible and it's not impossible to finish above Arsenal. The belief is there."
