Fergie bemoans end of United streak

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted Manchester United's performance was a 'disappointment' after their unbeaten run came to an end against Wolves.

United would have set a club record of 30 games unbeaten had they avoided defeat at Molineux, but first-half goals from George Elokobi and Kevin Doyle ensured that would not be the case. But the Scot blamed a flat display in the second half for the loss, ending a previously impressive run.

"They did us all proud, we can be pleased at that part [the unbeaten streak]," Ferguson said. "But today, in the second half we didn't really get going."

Both goals for Mick McCarthy's side came from set pieces, a danger area Ferguson had highlighted before the match.

"I said that before, it stands strongly again after the game," he said. "They're a handful from set pieces and that's what they proved to be. That ultimately cost us the game."

United remain four points clear at the top of the league after Arsenal were pegged back by Newcastle, despite enjoying a 4-0 half-time lead, but Ferguson was unwilling to take that as a positive from the day.

"We are not looking at the people below us, we are looking at ourselves, and the opportunity was there for us to continue on the good run we've been on," he said. "The consistency we've shown in the past few months has been terrific, so today was a big disappointment."
