Birmingham are giving a trial to United States international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya.

Bedoya, 23, has spent the last two years in Sweden with Orebro SK and earned his first international start against Brazil last August after missing out on USA's World Cup 2010 squad.

The central midfielder will hope to earn himself a permanent contract, with the club who took his US international team-mate Edson Buddle on trial before the striker joined Bundesliga.2 side Ingolstadt.

''I am very happy and grateful about this opportunity,'' Bedoya told his club's official website. ''It will increase my experience, motivation and confidence for the future.

''Hopefully I can prove I have the qualities to convince, but most importantly it gives me a chance to see where I stand compared with some of the best players in the best league in the world.''

Orebro sporting director Magnus Skoldmark admitted the interest from abroad is flattering.

He said: "It's fun that a Premier League side shows interest for one of our players, it shows that we have a good professional environment."
