England's Ross Pearson is ready to collide in the centre of the Octagon with Spencer Fisher this weekend, declaring ahead of UFC 127: "It's my time".
Pearson is on the comeback trail after having knee surgery following his loss to Cole Miller back in September. In Fisher, he has a rival who will not allow him one second to find his timing.
The long injury layoff has seen Pearson discover a new focus, recently admitting to ESPN that he is basing his game on lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Known largely as a boxer from his past UFC outings, Pearson is ready to show he can take the fight anywhere and win.
"Spencer Fisher is always a name in my mind that I think, 'They've got to put me and Spencer together at some point'. Here's that time," said the Brit. "He's the type of fighter I like to fight. He puts it all on the line, he's an all-round fighter, he's exciting, aggressive, knocks guys out, submits guys. Fans love to see that.
"All-round, I think I beat him everywhere. I've trained too hard, too long... it's my time. No messing about anymore, it's time to show people what I can do.
"I've fought southpaws like Aaron Riley before, but I want to mix it up. If I put him on his back he's not a southpaw is he? I've no doubt he's going to come rushing at me and put it on me. We're going to meet in the middle, it's gonna be great."
Fisher, who ended a two-fight losing streak by defeating England's Curt Warburton at UFC 120, is convinced he and Pearson will put on the Fight of the Night come Saturday.
"I don't think it's any surprise what either one of us is planning on doing," said the 34-year-old American. "We're going out there to throw down. The man who can stick to his gameplan will win this fight.
"He's never faced somebody with the speed that I have or the tenacity that I have. I don't think there will be anybody sitting on their butt during this fight."
