Shaun Wright-Phillips insists he can see a "bright future" for himself at Manchester City.

Wright-Phillips had been one of the players expected to leave Eastlands in January as he fell down the pecking order, but a lengthy lay-off for fellow winger Adam Johnson prompted Roberto Mancini to rethink his plans.

Having now been given the chance to prove his worth to City, Wright-Phillips is eager to show he has a part to play.

"Football works in mysterious ways," he said. "If I am wanted here I will stay. I never wanted to leave in the first place. I still see a bright future for me here. It is just about getting chances.

"I have played a few games recently and now I just want to keep doing well."

Having joined City as a schoolboy and spent all but three years of his professional career with the club, the 29-year-old added: "Obviously because of my background, it would be nice to win something for this club."
