Michael Carrick believes his Manchester United team-mates must put the disappointment of defeat to Chelsea behind them and focus fully on the weekend's game with Liverpool.

On Tuesday night United saw their first half lead disappear as David Luiz and Frank Lampard scored to give the Premier League champions an important victory. In the aftermath of the game United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was angry at the performance of Martin Atkinson - who awarded a late penalty that Lampard converted and also sent off defender Nemanja Vidic - but Carrick believes the side cannot afford to dwell on matters with a trip to Anfield on the horizon.

"At the moment we feel pretty down, but we can move on quickly. We have to," Carrick told MUTV. "We're used to doing that and we're normally good at that, so hopefully we can bounce back again.

"Some decisions didn't go our way and we're on the end of a defeat, which is very hard to take. "That type of decision plays a huge part in the game. Big decisions you've got to get right, especially in a game of this importance, so we're disappointed.

"We have to get rid of this game, forget about it and move on. It's obviously a huge game on Sunday and we'll be ready for that. We have to be. We'll be ready."

The game at Stamford Bridge was also notable for Ryan Giggs' record-equalling 606th game for the club, and team-mate John O'Shea could not hide his admiration for the Welsh wonder.

"You see how the manager has built squads and Giggsy has been a vital part of every single one of them," O'Shea, who also suggested the 37-year-old could play on until his forties, said. "It's just incredible. [Paulo] Maldini springs to mind with AC Milan but I think Giggsy has even gone past him.

"The speed and the balance he still shows to go past whether it be an old, experienced defender or a new, up-and-coming young strong defender is incredible.

"Every cliche in the book has been used about the man already and I am sure they will be said many times again.

"He is an absolute legend."
