Just a couple of days after seemingly being ruled out of next week's Champions League clash with AC Milan, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp claims there is still an outside chance of the Gareth Bale taking his place in the squad.

Spurs are protecting a 1-0 lead from the first leg but Redknapp has been plagued by injuries in recent weeks. Bale has been in fine form for much of the season, but a back complaint has sidelined him for over a month.

The dashing winger has made slow progress in his rehabilitation and after joining the squad out for a spot of warm-weather training in Dubai, it appeared he was losing his fitness race.

Bale is unlikely to feature in Tottenham's clash with Wolves on Sunday, but he is still in contention for the visit of Milan to White Hart Lane.

"Sunday's match at Wolves is probably too early for him," Redknapp told The Sun. "But I don't want to rule Bale out of next week's match with AC Milan.

"He has just to push himself through it now. He feels fine and we would love to have him available."

Rafael van der Vaart is another player nearing full fitness and he is in a similar situation to Bale.

Redknapp said: "Rafa is the same. I don't think Rafa will be fit for Sunday but there is a chance he will be back for Wednesday."
