Andy Carroll has described his Liverpool debut as one of the greatest atmospheres of his fledgling career.

After nearly six weeks spent kicking his heels following his £35 million move from Newcastle, Carroll was given the green light to make his debut. That it came against bitter rivals Manchester United added greater spice and the moment was topped off as he got the nod from the bench with Liverpool leading 3-0.

Carroll did not have the chance to make any significant impact in the 3-1 win, although he did have a long-range header saved, but it is an occasion he will look back on fondly.

"When I was running back, all the fans were shouting and screaming and so I got a little bit excited," Carroll told the club's official website. "I was over the moon to get on there and get back playing.

"The support was unbelievable for me. The fans have been great since I signed and even when I was warming up, they were fantastic. It was an incredible atmosphere - definitely one of the best I've ever experienced."

Carroll is feeling his way back from a thigh injury that had sidelined him since December but after making his debut he is hungry for more action.

"It was great to get out there and the result made it even better," he told the club's official website. "I was on the bench and itching to get on right from the kick-off really, but I've started now and can't wait for the next game."
