Fabio Capello has named Wolves midfielder Matt Jarvis in his England squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales and friendly with Ghana.

Capello named a 26-man squad, which will be led by John Terry after he was handed back the armband, and Jarvis is the surprise call. He has performed with credit for Wolves this season and his inclusion proves Capello is prepared to look outside of the top sides.

With Theo Walcott and Adam Johnson ruled out through injury, Capello has handed Jarvis his chance to compete for a starting spot with Aaron Lennon and Ashley Young.

Having scored the only goal of the game against Aston Villa this weekend, the 24-year-old will now be a part of the squad for the qualifier at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday and the friendly against Ghana at Wembley on March 29.

"It was great to get the call tonight confirming I am in the squad," Jarvis told the official Wolves website. "I'm delighted as you would expect and, to be honest, it's difficult to put it into words at the moment.

"I'd been named in standby for a few of the games this season so it's great that I've finally made it into the squad.

"Like every player, it's been a dream of mine to try and play for England since starting off in the game and getting into the squad takes me one step closer.

"I'll enjoy the news tonight and am really pleased but, from there, it will be a case of joining up tomorrow and trying to impress and do everything I can to get some time on the pitch."

Fabio Capello - who is already without Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard and Theo Walcott - had hoped Manchester City winger Adam Johnson would be available but the games come too soon following his recent injury troubles.

Kyle Walker has retained his place in the squad, Scott Parker also features, while Andy Carroll has been recalled after returning to fitness with his new club Liverpool.
