Michael Owen hopes to extend his stay at Manchester United beyond the end of the current season, but admits he is yet to hold any formal discussions with the club about his long-term future.

Owen has struggled with fitness issues since signing a contract with the club during the summer of 2009. He has also struggled to win the trust of Sir Alex Ferguson - making just six Premier League appearances so far this term - and with around three months on his current deal left to run, neither player nor manager have opened discussions about what will happen next season.

"I am not sure about my future yet," Owen said. "My contract expires at the end of this season and I've made no secret that, in an ideal world, I would extend my stay. But I will just wait and see what the club say. We've not held any talks yet."

For now, the striker is hoping to play a part in the first leg of United's Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. United don't have the best record against the Blues - having failed to win in 10 games in west London, including a 2-1 defeat earlier this season - but Owen believes that record will change sooner rather than later.

"Since I've been at the club the games at Chelsea have been odd," he said. "We don't get outplayed there, that's for sure. Unfortunately, we haven't had many good results, though. I'm sure our luck will change at some point.

"In the league last month we were 1-0 up and put on one of the finest displays of football Stamford Bridge has probably seen from a visiting team. Then they got back into the game from nothing, really, but we won't let that happen again."
