Terry feels for goal-shy Torres

Chelsea captain John Terry has leapt to the defence of goal-shy £50 million striker Fernando Torres and is backing him to end his drought ahead of Saturday's trip to Wigan Athletic.

Torres drew another blank in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday night and has failed to score a single goal since his big-money move from Liverpool in January.

But Terry thinks it's only a matter of time before Torres, whose last scored in Liverpool's 3-0 win against Wolves on January 22, finds the back of the net and embarks on a goal-scoring streak.

Terry said: "It's just a case of getting that first goal, getting that off your shoulders, and then you can move on.

"It must be hard as well, people carrying on talking about it. It must be a big weight to carry as well with the fee that he came for.

"But he knows he's good enough to play, the players certainly know he's good enough, and he's got our full support."

Torres could find himself back on the bench on Saturday if manager Carlo Ancelotti persists with his striker rotation policy.

Terry said: "Obviously, there's big competition up front and, with guys like Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, big rivalry. But, at the same time, they get on brilliantly on and off the field. And I think everyone wants to help him, help him settle in and get that first goal."

Chelsea are close to surrendering their Premier League title having slipped 11 points behind leaders United, albeit with a game in hand.
